بعض الناس عليه حقوق كثيرة من مظالم وذنوب للعباد، ويظن أن الحج يُسقِطها عنه، وهذا غير صحيح باتفاق العلماء؛ فلا بدَّ من التوبة ورد الحقوق إلى أصحابها.
وفي هذا يقول الإمام ابن تيمية: (حقوق العباد من الذنوب والمظالم وغيرها لا تسقط بالحج باتفاق الأئمة، والحديث الذي يُروىٰ في سقوط المظالم وغيرها بذلك، وهو حديث عباس بن مرداس، حديثٌ ضعيف).
